In this video, Joe Donnelly demonstrates two exercises to isolate the rear delts and a talks through the most important coaching points for training your shoulders.
Without special attention, the medial and posterior heads of the deltoid will be underdeveloped and asymmetrical, as compared with the anterior head of the deltoid. Rather than decreasing the size or thickness of the anterior deltoids, the better strategy is to develop equal mass and depth as the anterior deltoid, on the lateral and posterior aspect of this muscle. A great way to do this is to do incline rear lateral raises.
Sometimes a busy life and schedule means it is harder than ever to find the time to keep your physique powerful, sharp and fat-free. Isolation exercises, as good as they are, do not help you solve the time-crunch problem. The solution? Compound movements that target multiple muscle groups at the same time, like Dumbbell Thrusters.
If you thicken the lateral part of the deltoid, your upper body will also assume a more commanding shape because your upper back and chest will look wider from the front, and your waist width will appear smaller. Seated dumbbell lateral raises are exceptional for adding shape and mass to the deltoid muscle, without overly burdening the unstable shoulder joint.
Even if you have missed a few workouts, and have indulged a little too much this winter despite the best intentions, there is no reason to give up on good intentions. There is still plenty of time to get back on track before the summer months descend upon us, with the mandatory shedding of heavy clothes that may be covering up more than a few missed workouts.
After you’ve blasted legs with the best lifts for muscle growth, move on to the lower body. Here are the best lifts for chest, shoulders and back.
The shoulder has been designed for maximum mobility, but it provides very little in the way of stability. To make things even more problematic, it is a poor mechanical lever, so that tremendous amounts of force have to be generated even before the smallest of weights can be lifted.
Of course, you want to avoid owning underdeveloped and thin shoulders since such structures portray a weak and vulnerable physique, and who wants to ooze frailty?
