Most men experience post-ejaculatory indifference toward their partner after sex, while others fall asleep. This exasperates women. They think that men should be passionate and loving after doing the dirty deed. Are men just boorish pigs or is there another explanation?
Mark Leyner and Dr. Billy Goldberg answered this question and many others in their smash-hit book called Why do Men Fall Asleep After Sex? More Questions You’d Only Ask Your Doctor After Your Third Whiskey Sour (Three Rivers Press). They explained that men and women release sleep-inducing chemicals after orgasm. Men get sleepier than women after sex because they’re more likely to have an orgasm and are also more physically active than women when having sex. We would add that men and women view sex differently. In the movie “City Slickers,” Billy Crystal summed up gender differences in the approach to sex. “Women need a good reason to have sex with a man; all men need is a place.” (USA Today, Aug. 21, 2006)
