Millions of Americans take antidepressants, such as Prozac and Zoloft, to treat depression, anxiety and personality disorders. A review of literature by researchers from Sapienze University in Italy concluded that these drugs are effective for treating premature ejaculation. A review of nine studies showed that antidepressant drugs prolonged the time to ejaculation during sex, and improved sexual satisfaction. However, there are large individual differences in responses to specific drugs. In some men, antidepressants decreased sexual function and satisfaction. Physicians should carefully monitor psychological and sexual responses in men taking these medications. (International Journal Of Impotence Research, 23: 17-23, 2011)
