Vitamin D - Improves Sperm Quality
Vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin, has been linked to muscle and bone health, psychological wellness and weight loss. Danish researchers found that vitamin D is also essential for male fertility. They found a high relationship between sperm cell movement speed and blood levels of vitamin D. The link may be due to the vitamin’s effect on testosterone metabolism. Vitamin D supplements have been shown to increase testosterone levels in men with subnormal gonadal function. Men living at higher latitudes experience less exposure to the sun and decreased vitamin D production. Vitamin D supplements may be important for ensuring normal reproductive function in men with low levels of the vitamin. (Oxford Journal Human Reproduction, 26: 1296-1306)
