Mindfulness Has No Effect on Weight Loss or Metabolic Health

Mindfulness is focusing attention on internal and external experiences with techniques such as meditation. Most people who lose weight through weight control programs gain it back within 12 months. Jennifer Daubenmier from the University of California, San Francisco and co-workers, found that employing mindfulness techniques during weight loss had no additional effect on weight loss, blood sugar, waist circumference, blood pressure or C-reactive protein (a blood marker of inflammation). Mindfulness techniques do not appear effective for promoting weight loss. (Obesity, published online March 2016)
