Erection–promoting drugs work in about 70 percent of men with erectile dysfunction (ED). Drug–resistant men typically suffer from low testosterone levels, according to researchers from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. They reported the results of a 12-month study of nearly 1,000 men who were treated with a 1 percent testosterone gel (Testim). Treatment increased testosterone by 100 percent to a blood level of 500 ng/dL. After one year, men who benefited from taking drugs like Viagra and those who were resistant to Viagra experienced improvement in erectile function. Testosterone had positive effects on sex drive, erectile function, ejaculatory function and “the level of bother.” Testosterone supplements have many sexual and health benefits for men with low gonadal function.
