Preparing for your first obstacle race? Here are five tips to help you get ready for the big day.
1 RUN
At least three days per week. Include a 60- to 90-minute slow run, a 30- to 50-minute hard run, and an interval day where you do either repeated sprints or a 40- to 60-minute run with several max effort sprints of varying distances peppered throughout.
2 COMMIT TO YOGA
Do yoga as often as possible. This is key to getting the balance and flexibly needed to perform your best and avoid injury.
3 OVERDOSE ON PULLUPS
Add structured sets of pull-ups into your workouts at least twice a week. Add a pull-up bar in your bedroom doorway and each time you walk by, perform a few reps.
4 WAKE UP AND BURP
Do at least 30 burpees each morning. Burpees are a great total-body exercise that will help build endurance.
5 CLIMB AND BEAR IT
Practice rope climbs and bear crawls as often as possible. Aim for one to three days per week after your workouts.
